A VERY SPECIAL TRADITION

Sewing the Kesa and Rakusu in Zen Soto

The authentic transmission of the kesa is more important and tell us more about the Dharma than all the explanations in the sutras. We must never forget about that.
-Master  Dogen (1200-1253)

Sewing the Kesa is an important part of Zen Soto practice.

When a person is ordained, he or she receives a kesa or a rakusu from the master. Each person sews their own rakusu and kesa. The method is passed down from person to person. At the Mokusho Montreal Zen Dojo, sewing sessions are held many times during the years. But even then, if for some reasons you are unable finish yours or live a bit far to attend, I’m here to help, I’m from Casselman and I cover eastern Ontario.
